dealing with recursive git submodules makes me want to lie down on a claymore, pull on the trigger cable, and enjoy the feeling of a thousand ball bearings shredding my body to pieces, knowing that i will never again have to find out that `-r` does not mean `--recursive` and instead makes `git submodule init` do something other than the obvious fucking thing everyone wants it to do
